Lessons & Carols 2019
Reflecting on the Christmas Story through the lens of longing & belonging.
Make plans to join us on December 8th (4pm or 7:30pm) for this non-traditional* service of Lessons & Carols. This year’s program features music (including original compositions), art, and Scripture readings tracing the story of God’s promise to “dwell with us”.
* The Lessons & Carols service, first created over 100 years ago, is traditionally made of Scripture readings (lessons) and classic carols. We use the same general format, but approach the readings and music with a broader theme than simply the Nativity scene. Through an idea like ‘Home’, we hope to press the story of the Gospel more deeply into our hearts and minds and celebrate the story in fresh and new ways.
Location & Times
Family Friendly - 4:oopm
Families and children are welcome to come to either time, but we will provide a nursery for ages 0-4 at this hour.
Evening - 7:30pm
With identical content to the 4pm hour, we hope this time gives opportunity to gather with friends for dinner beforehand.
Other Upcoming Events
Gingerbread House Party
Drop your children off for a Gingerbread House Party and enjoy a Parents’ Day Out from 11am-3pm! We’ll serve lunch, make gingerbread houses and more. There’s no charge, so invite your friends! Let Betsy know by December 13th if your children will be attending. Have some candy you could donate that could be used for gingerbread house decorating (m&m’s, gumdrops, licorice, red hots, skittles, etc.)? Leave it in the box marked outside of the kid’s hallway entrance!
The Longest Night
The holiday season can bring with it significant pain and reminders of loss and grief. The Scriptures, however, show us that Christ arrived in a context of fear, uncertainty, and even danger. And so the Gospel speaks a warm and compassionate “welcome” to those who are hurting. Each year we set aside time around the longest night of the year for a service of remembrance, consolation, and assurance. If you are in need of this sort of worship service, please make plans to join us on Wednesday, December 18th at 6:30pm.
